Rowan Update - 38 mos.

It does seem a little silly to refer to Rowan as a 38-month-old, but I only do it for the blog - I swear! Afterall, you've got to acknowledge which mirthday we're celebrating. :-)

Rowan's had a busy month. He got his first big kid bike from his Grams and Papaw last weekend and is doing really well with it. The training wheels are much better now than I remember them as a kid. In other big kid news, this will be his last month in the 2-year-old village at school. In June he will go to the preschool area. I'll post more details later.

Here are a few funny quotes from the past couple of weeks just to give you an idea of the brilliant comedian we get to enjoy.

On the way to school one morning...
R: Mommy, did you hear my tummy?
Me: No, I didn't. What did he say?
R: Something ruuuuude. [giggles]

After picking his nose and putting the contents in his mouth...
Me: Yuck! I can't believe you just ate your boogers in front of me.
R: [turns away from me] I'm not eating them in front of you.
Me: Gross, man.
R: Yeah. The garbage man might take away my yucky mouth. Then I would be sad because I couldn't talk.

Raleigh's One-Year Stats

Raleigh's check-up last Thursday went well. The doctor said she is in perfect health and is developing just as she should. That's just what I like to hear.
  • Height: 28.5"
  • Weight: 19lbs. 1 oz.
  • Likes: baths, talking, fruits and sweet foods, birthday cake sprinkles, stuffed animals, being outside
  • Dislikes: diaper changes, being fed - she wants to do it and is starting to insist on a spoon.
  • Communication: Raleigh can say uh-oh, Dada, Bub (sometimes), agua, dis (this), dat (that), awww. She can wave bye-bye when you ask her to, shake her head (her whole body, actually) yes and no, point to things she wants, smacks away things she doesn't, kiss (mwaaa), and clap her hands when you say "yay" or "clap".
  • Skills: She's getting more interested in walking. This past weekend she walked with help quite a bit. She has stood by herself a couple of times for about 2 seconds, but gets scared and sits down when she realizes what's going on.
  • Teeth: I think her bottom right molar is starting to come in. She's drooling like crazy and gnaws on her finger. Hopefully it will come in quickly. When it comes in, that will be #11.
  • Food: We've started weaning her from the bottle to a sippy cup. It's going okay. I think sometimes she holds out for the bottle.
  • So big! She's still wearing a few of her 9-month clothes mixed with 12-month. She's wearing a size 3 shoe and size 3 diapers.
Happy, happy birthday sweet baby girl. Laissez les bon temps roulez!

Raleigh is 1!!!

I know I am late with the birthday post but I hope you can forgive me since I've included a video this time. I was having some computer troubles and it took awhile to edit and post. Excuses. Yeah, I got 'em.

Without further ado, heeeeere's Raleigh! Her one-year check-up is Thursday. I will post a proper update after that.

I posted one other video. You can view all Raleigh videos using the same password that you use to view the photos.

Rowan Says

To my mom before she left for a dinner date with my dad and friends

“G-Ma, be careful. Don’t forget your wallet.”

Rowan and I were talking about how all of the Wilson~Miller men have facial hair.

Me: Rowan are you going to have a mustache or a beard when you get older?

Rowan: Yes, and probably a knife. When I am 5.

During a particularly cranky morning

Me: Rowan, did you just hit my leg on purpose?

Rowan: I did! (starts fake-ish crying and leans on my leg)

Me: Oh, are you hugging me because you are sorry?

Rowan: NO! This is NOT a hug and I am NOT sorry. (more fake-ish crying)

At breakfast last weekend we were talking about Little Jack Horner. Rowan likes to shake up the plot lines sometimes.

“I stuck in my thumb and pulled out a cigarette and burned my lips. What’s a cigarette?” – No earthly idea where this came from.

On our drive to school one morning, I took a Nutrigrain bar with me to eat on the way.

Rowan: Hey, where’s that Nutrigrain bar?

Me: I ate it, Bub. That was my breakfast.

R: Mommy, I am upset with you for not sharing that Nutrigrain bar.

Me: Oh dear! I am so sorry. I thought you were full from your breakfast and wouldn’t want any.

R: I did need some.

Me: Sorry. Are you going to be okay?

R: I will.

Rowan Update

Living with a three-year-old has been interesting so far. I don’t know if it’s been the supermoon, spring fever, or something else, but Rowan has been quite saucy these past 2 weeks. Saucy and sensitive. According to him, Jeremy and I have been hurting his feelings a lot. So have my parents. Mostly we hurt his feelings by telling him not to do something dangerous and not doing what he wants. It’s been tiring for everyone. This morning, Rowan woke up perky and in good spirits. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that he is on the way out of his sore-tailed cat phase.

  • Height: 37.5 inches
  • Weight: 34.9 pounds
  • Likes: fire trucks, tractors, Caillou, Curious George, his book about Tinkerbell and other Peter Pan characters, Spiderman, doing things for himself, being outside, going to G-Ma’s house, and “a fresh guy” (his lovey)
  • Dislikes: Bedtime, Raleigh getting too much attention, asparagus, interrupting playtime for pesky tasks like eating, bathing, and the potty
  • Skills: We have been working on rhyming and letter sounds for the past month. His coloring and drawing skills continue to improve. Smiley faces are his forte. He is a really good story teller and has started to make up more complex scenarios. He also loves to tease and tell jokes.
  • So big: Rowan wears a size 9 shoe, size 3T pants, and size 3T-4T shirts.
