Easter Outing
We took Rowan on his first real outing today. Chip and Krissy invited us to their house for an Easter egg hunt. The kids had a lot of fun. It's too bad Rowan missed it all. He fell asleep about a minute after we put him in his car seat and didn't wake up until we got back to the house 3 hours later. Next Easter should be a little more interesting for him.

Let it flow
My breast pump speaks to me.
Seriously. You can ask my mom. She heard it too. I know what you're thinking. "Cuckoo! She's gone over the edge." Well, maybe I have, but that doesn't mean that my breast pump isn't communicating with me.
I didn't hear it at first, but as I sit there day after day hooked up to the milking machine it became more noticeable. It's as if we're two friends who have developed a relationship. We spend a lot of time together. It's pretty intimate, too, so it's only natural that our casual, rather clinical relationship would blossom into something more.
You're probably wondering what the machine says. It says different things depending on my mood and energy level. If I am feeling peppy, it may say something encouraging like "Work it girl." or "Fill 'er up!" and "Let it flow." If I am having a rougher time, it says things like "You're a fool." and "Throw it out." When I am really loopy from exhaustion, it says strange things like "Demon hole". I wish it would save the encouraging words for the tough times and keep those negative thoughts to itself, but what can you do?
Speaking of pumping, it's almost time for me to hook up. I think this morning will be more of a "let it flow" kind of session. That's just the vibe I get.

No sleep 'til...?
Rowan finally fell asleep. Essentially, he had been awake from 2:15am until 9:50am. He had a couple 10 minute naps here are there (Oh yeah, and 2 feedings and 3 diaper changes). Those don't count as sleeping in my book. How can something so small dominate two adults? The scary thing is that he's succeeding. Don't let his cuteness fool you, people. He's crafty and cunning. Just when you think you've gotten him to settle down, BAM! He lets out a piercing whelp. We go through our checklist of potential problems: diaper, food, burping, stuffy nose, gas, demon possession... Usually we can come up with a solution, but sometimes, I think he likes to yell to see what we'll try. Take this morning for example. After rocking, walking, bouncing (lying down and sitting up), shushing, swaddling, swinging, singing, patting, massaging, and jiggling I finally got out the car seat. I put him in it and set the car seat on the bed where I commenced to wiggling the thing around in random patterns. It took nearly 20 minutes of this nonsense before he finally nodded off. It worked this time. Hopefully it will work again.
I've compared this time to basic training boot camp. Not that Jeremy or I have experienced boot camp first hand. But, we have seen lots of movies... Private Benjamin, Stripes, etc. Rowan's job is to break us down mentally and challenge us physically with the ultimate goal of turning us into lean, mean, parenting machines. Oorah.
Ahhh! He keeps making grunting noises like he wants to wake up. It's only been a half hour since he went to sleep. Today is going to be a loooong one.
P.S. Jeremy is going to post some new photos today. Check 'em out.

Tempus Fugit
How did it get to be March already? I feel like I've only been home a week. Sheesh! I guess it will only get worse from here on out. The next thing I know we'll be taking Rowan to kindergarten.
I'm feeling much better physically. I knew it would take some time to recover from my surgery, but I slightly underestimated exactly how long that would be. As my physical health has improved, so has my mental well-being. I'm also feeling more competent with Rowan. Thanks be to heaven for letting him be a relatively easy baby!
I went on my first outing yesterday. It's been nearly a month since I have driven. Happily, it was just like riding a bike... except with heated leather seats and XM radio.
If you haven't already, check out some photos of Rowan. We'll add more so check back often.
