2-month Milestones

Rowan had his 2-month doctor visit yesterday. He is now 12 pounds, 10 ounces and 24 inches long. I knew he looked bigger, but I would never have guessed that he grew 4 inches in the past month. Whew! He also got the first round of vaccines yesterday. He took them like a champ. He let out a small yell after the shot, but that was it. I think it helped that Jeremy was holding him.

Today, he has a stuffy nose. Bummer. He's been pretty good about having his nose suctioned out. I dread the day he decides that the suction thing, well, sucks. :-)

On a brighter note, Rowan has been sleeping really well during the night. He's been out for at least 5 hours in a row for the past few nights and he's been napping well, too. When he's awake, he's a lot more alert. He loves tummy time and thinks he can crawl. He also loves standing.

My baby's getting so big!

Happy Birthday, Rowan!

Rowan is now 8 weeks old. I've said it before but it warrants at least one more mention: time has really flown by! He's changed so much since February. He's bigger for one thing. And he's a lot more engaging. I imagine that he'll become more wonderful as time passes. (I'm such a mom. The next thing you know, I'll be wearing capri pants. Wait a minute... I already have a pair!)

Jeremy is going to a fishing tournament this weekend so my parents are coming to stay with me and Rowan. It took all of 2 seconds for them to agree to come up. :-) My Granny and my aunt Beverly are also coming for a visit. It's kind of weird to think that there will be 4 generations of Wilsons in the house. We'll definitely have to take some photos of this momentous event.

Goings on

Rowan is getting to be so fun! He laughs and smiles a lot now, especially when Jeremy tries to kiss his neck. I call it the neck monster game. He also had his first bathtub bath the other day. (Yes, we have cleaned him prior to this. It's just been too cold for the bathtub experience.) Anyway, he loved it. I thought he might try to cut a shine but he did great.

The music experiment continues. He really likes 70s funk and R&B. He was napping on the couch with me earlier while I was answering e-mails. I had the TV on the classic rock channel and Neil Young came on. He started fussing. What's his beef with Neil Young? I guess this Southern man don't need him around. :-)

We've taken more photos of Rowan and a video. They will be posted soon. Sorry for the delay. We've had some technical difficulties.

Total(ly Can't) Recall

It's happening. I did not think it was possible. I know that experienced parents would not deliberately lie to me, but I was still skeptical. Trying to remember the first month of being a new mommy has been tough. I asked Jeremy what he remembers. We're both pretty fuzzy with the specifics. I sort of remember feeding Rowan, watching endless hours of TV, and groaning a lot. Jeremy confirmed that this was mostly the case. It's a good thing I have this blog otherwise I would not be able to recollect those early days in much detail.

One of the shows that really helped me through those first few weeks of nocturnal madness was "Clean House" on the Style channel. Thank heaven for Niecy Nash and her spunky personality. I don't know what I would have done without her companionship in the wee hours of the night. Niecy, if you're reading this, thanks for being so entertaining! If you ever get to Atlanta would you please stop by our house?

Rockin' the Cradle

I've been playing different kinds of music for Rowan. Even though he's only 6 weeks old, he is already starting to show preference for certain noises. He likes the Light Classical channel on Comcast and jazz guitar. Much to our amusement, he seems to like hair metal. I think he liked the country music but it is hard to say for certain since I was dancing with him at the same time. :-) So far, the only artist he has shown an aversion for is Neil Young. Interesting.

Rowan also likes outdoor sounds. Because the weather has been so nice I've had the windows and back door open to let in some fresh air. When the birds start singing or the wind chime jingles he'll turn his eyes toward to door with a thoughtful look on his face. I took him out back yesterday where he got to hear the neighbor's dog and a helicopter.

The most exciting news is that I think he is starting to recognize our voices! He's also started smiling more and more. When he does both at the same time... it's magic.
